The end of Superstar as we know Her

These last six weeks have been busy to say the least.

My beautiful baby is a monster between the hours of 3 am and daylight. His longest stretch of sleep is 2 hours but from 3-7 am he's been waking up hourly. Its enough to break the strongest of wills, which means MMA and I are crumbling like cornbread.

Seriously, sleep fragmentation is our Kryptonite.

I'm ready to give him cereal to "hold him over." But the studies say that it doesn't really help them sleep longer. It has to do with neurological development. What do you parents out there think? Should I spike the milk with a little sumpin-sumpin? I'm desperate. The bags under my eyes are the real thing.

In other news, my beloved Jeep is in the dog house. I loved it, but I'm ready to leave it. A few months ago, it still looked good to me, but with a new baby in the picture, I see it in a whole new light. I don't have time to deal with the kinks and rumbles of an aging car. On Friday I had to pile car seats and babies into a two door sports car because I didn't like the noise the Jeep was making. I'm done with it.

We spent Saturday car shopping. Yuck!

Superstar was not ready to admit that the practicality of a mini van supersedes her self image as a woman with a cooler ride. "BUT, from the inside of a minivan, looking out, they are
sweet!" she keeps telling herself.

I'm probably going to be driving a minivan soon. I can't wrap my mind around that. My mojo just went out the window of Caravan, or an Odyssey. Or a Town and Country.

Holy cow! Car shopping with a 5 week old was rough! I think I deserve a medal or something.

It's OK. We will still remember you as the "cool" one.

It will be super awesome to take to Canton!

Oh goodness, I'm so sorry you're not getting much sleep these days. And the car shopping~ ugh, it's hard.

If you end up purchasing a minivan you'll have to get this cute t-shirt I saw in a gift shop. It said, "I'm too sexy for my minivan."

Thanks for the advice on the flatware. I'm going to try to find the patterns I like in a store so I can touch them and see how they feel. It matters. :)

I couldn't do the mini-van. I tried. We sat in it, and I agree....looking out, it's a beaut. BUT....we went with my beloved Honda Pilot instead.

I can't take the no sleep thing either, so I'm a baby scheduler. Some people scoff at the idea of "forcing" your baby (it's soooo not forcing, but whatev) into a pattern, but both of my boys have done it, loved it, and any negative baby issues never stemmed from lack of sleep or lack of full bellies. At that age, though, I'd still be getting up every 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Even that break-up is hard on the conscience. :(

Have you tried letting baby just "be awake" at 3am, but leave him undisturbed? See if he coos and plays and then puts himself back to sleep? Just a thought if you haven't tried that already.

I hope you get it figured out. I'll be rooting for you.

Nothing wrong with a minivan, I've been driving one since 1990. Of course with 4 kids...You'll love the all the room. How about an SUV if you don't want to do the van?

Give it 4 more weeks... (sounds like a lifetime, I know.) Make no decisions ( you are sleep deprived, remember? ) and try to get someone to watch only child for a few hours in the afternoon so you can get a nap... If in 4 weeks you still feel like you have a "demon-possessed" child, check in with the pediatrician....
just hang on until the first week of December. You can do it.!!!!

I also have a deep aversion to minivans. I know they must be very practical but the whole huge bus-ness with itty-bitty wheels just makes me nuts. There something about the proportions of the minivan that I can't deal with.

I figure, if I ever have to get a larger car I'd go with a Toyota Venza or a Toyota Highlander Hybrid (pricey, but 36 mpgs! and it has a 3rd row option).

I'm sorry you are not getting sleep - I guess it comes with the territory. Hopefully he'll find a more reasonable, less staccato-like sleeping schedule :o)
